Cloxacillin (D-Cloxacillin) is a semisynthetic penicillin derivative. It is highly effective against penicillinase producing bacteria.

D-Cloxacillin 500 mg Capsule: Each capsule contains Cloxacillin 500 mg as Cloxacillin Sodium BP.

Cloxacillin kills bacteria by interfering the synthesis of bacterial cell wall by inhibiting the transpeptidase enzyme. As a result, the bacterial cell swells up and is ruptured.

Soft tissue infections: Abscess, cellulitis, boil, carbuncle, furuncle, infected burn, pemphigus, paronychia, impetigo, pustule.
Respiratory tract infections: Tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, pneumonia, otitis media, lung abscess.
Other infections: Acute and sub-actue endocarditis, staphylococcal meningitis, osteomyelitis, urinary tract infection, orthopaedic infection, prophylaxis of post operative wound infection.

Oral:
Adult: 500 mg 6 hourly, 1/2-1 hour before meals for 7 days. Children: 2-10 years, half of the adult dose; under 2 years, quarter of the adult dose is recommended. Dose in children based on body weight is 25-50 mg/kg/day, given in divided portion.

Occasional rashes, transient diarrhoea or indigestion may rarely be reported.

Cloxacillin is contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitivity.

Cloxacillin is relatively safe in pregnancy and lactation. In case of its use in lactation, the possibility of sensitizing the neonate should be borne in mind.

Prior administration of cloxacillin, penicillin hypersensitivity should be borne in mind. Solutions for injection should be used within 30 minutes of preparation.

Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light.
