Detnil Solution is a preparation of chlorhexidine gluconate. Chlorhexidine is a disinfectant, which is effective against a wide range of vegetative Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is more effective against Gram-positive than Gram-negative bacteria, some species of Pseudomonas and Proteus being less susceptible.

Detnil Solution is a potent antibacterial agent for general antiseptic purposes. It is bactericidal to a broad spectrum of organisms. Detnil Solution solution is recommended for use in obstetrics and for swabbing burns and wounds. There is no distinction between adults, the elderly and children in terms of the use of this product. Detnil Solution solution should be used without further dilution for topical administration only.

Detnil Solution is for external use only, not for injection. When Detnil Solution is used in aseptic procedures, the outside of the container should be disinfected before opening. Discard any surplus immediately after use.

The use of chlorhexidine gluconate solution is contraindicated in patients who have shown hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine gluconate.

Rarely idiosyncratic skin reactions, generalized allergenic reactions may occur.

Chlorhexidine gluconate solution should not come into contact with the brain, eyes, meninges or middle ear.

Although there are no adverse reports for this product in pregnant and lactating mothers, as with all medicines, care should be exercised when administering the product to pregnant or lactating mothers.

Hypochlorite bleaches may cause brown stains to develop in fabrics, which have previously been in contact with Chlorhexidine gluconate solution.

Accidental ingestion: gastric lavage should be carried out with milk, egg white, gelatine or mild soap.

Store in a cool and dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.

Detnil Solution: Plastic bottle containing 100 ml chlorhexidine gluconate 0.5% w/v solution (equivalent to 2.5% v/v 200ml chlorhexidine gluconate solution BP) in 70% w/w isopropyl alcohol BP.
