Ferrous sulphate is an iron salt, in which 400mg ferrous salt contains 80mg elemental iron (or ferrous iron).

| Composition: |
D-Iron syrup is a preparation of ferrous sulphate 400mg/5ml.
|
| Indication: |
Ferrous sulphate is indicated for the prevention and treatment of iron deficiency anaemia. Prevention and treatment of iron deficiency anaemia before during and after pregnancy and during lactation. |
| Contra Indication: |
In conditions where there is a risk of iron overload e.g. haemolytic anaemia, haemochromatosis, thalassemia or haemosiderosis. In case of hypersensitivity to iron or any other ingredients of the preparation.

| Side Effects: |
This preparation is well tolerated. However dark stools are usual during iron therapy; nausea and other symptoms of gastrointestinal irritation, such as anorexia, vomiting discomfort, constipation and diarrhoea are sometimes encountered.

| Precaution: |
|
Iron chelates with antacid and tetracycline and absorption of all these may be impaired if taken concurrently.
|
| Pregnancy and Lactation: |
|
Recommended in pregnancy and lactation; but during first trimester of pregnancy requires careful assessment of potential risk and benefit of the therapy and should not be administered unless clearly indicated.

| Doses and Administration: |
|
Adult: 400mg in single or divided doses in a day. Prophylaxis 80mg iron daily.
Child: half of the adult dose.

Keep in dark, cool and dry place.
